Buy A Softball Glove - A No-Brainer, Right?

It is sometimes tempting to think that there is little to no difference between baseball and softball and therefore the same equipment can be used interchangeably between the two. However nice it would be to believe, this is simply not the case and is especially true for those wanting to purchase some leather softball gloves. As the size and weight are very different between a softball and baseball, care must naturally be taken if you plan to buy a softball glove that will be effective and last.

The Glove - How Big Should It Be?

Like baseball, those looking to buy softball equipment need to consider the position being played because it will play a huge factor in determining the best glove to purchase. If you are looking to purchase a leather softball glove for an infield position, a pattern of 12.5 inches will be fine. For outfielders, new softball gloves need a nice big pattern in order to catch those high pop-ups so it is a good idea to find them in the 13 or even 14 inch range.

The Material - Does It Really Matter?

Cheap gloves are made of cheap material and it will wear out quickly and don’t be surprised if the stitches in the glove begin to fray and unravel. Frankly, there is no substitute for leather softball gloves. Imitation materials like vinyl and pigskin just do not hold up and they actually feel different than leather.

While it may cost a few more bucks to start playing softball with a leather glove, the investment will be worth the extra money because the glove will actually survive until the next season. Online retailers are a great place to buy your softball equipment as they have larger selections and lower prices than most traditional sporting goods stores and they will provide you with the expert advice you need to make the best purchase possible.
