Softball Cleats - Will That Be Plastic, Rubber, Or Metal?
For anyone who has ever tried running the bases at full speed in a normal pair of athletic shoes, it is obvious why softball cleats are so important to the game of softball. Without them, players risk injury and an embarrassing tumble. But it seems like everything in softball comes with a host of options to choose from and the cleats are not an exception. Before racing out and buying some cleats, here are some options you need to consider.
There are three basic types of softball cleat available to softball players today: plastic, rubber, or the traditional metal. As far as the best traction and performance is concerned, nothing will get you around the softball field faster than metal cleats. Unfortunately, however, most leagues do not allow them because they cause too much damage. Hence, the appearance of the rubber and plastic cleat. For the money, rounded rubber nub cleats provide great traction on most softball fields and are allowed in almost all leagues. The hard plastic cleats don’t ride as well as the rubber cleats but they grip better. For those not wanting to make a commitment, shoes are available that allow you to change the cleats to suit the different conditions and rules.
Softball Shoes - Other Options To Consider
While the type of cleat is important, you will also need to consider what style of softball shoes you want. Low cut or low top softball cleats are the most popular style as they feel the most comfortable for players to wear. Just be sure to look for shoes with a padded collar and tongue for a tight but comfortable fit because loose fitting shoes lead to injury.
No matter what style of cleats your league allows or the features you want, online merchants have a bigger variety of softball shoes at lower prices than traditional sporting goods outlets due to their low overhead so be sure to surf the web before making a purchase.
