Softball Fastpitch Gloves - What You Need To Know

Softball players tend to form a very close and personal relationship with their gloves. Once the right glove is found, a player will tend to oil it regularly and make sure to dry it out after every game to prevent damage to their prized possession. But when people are out shopping for softball fastpitch gloves, how do they know what to look for when there are so many choices to consider?

Before looking at the specific features of any glove, first make sure that you are looking at the right type of glove for your position. Outfielders, catchers, and first base players all have very different needs so be sure to narrow the field of choices by only looking at gloves for the position you play or intend to play.

Fastpitch Gloves - The Specifics

Generally speaking, you will want a softball glove with narrow fingerstalls and a small but adequate wrist opening so that the glove fits snugly. These features will give you better control and allow you to open and close the glove easier, even when it is not yet broken in properly. Extra padding in the fingers and palm of your softball glove help ease the sting of incoming softballs.

You also want to find fastpitch gloves with a lining designed to wick away perspiration so that the glove stays where it is supposed to be. Finally, avoid synthetic gloves like the plague and always go with gloves made of genuine leather so that you, too, can take care of your glove years into the future. Online stores are the best place to find the right fastpitch glove for you at prices lower than most traditional stores thanks to their low overhead.
