Softball Sunglasses - The Forgotten Accessory
Many players new to softball often buy a
glove,
bat,
uniform, knee pads, and some other odds and ends but there is one softball accessory that is almost always forgotten: sunglasses. Part of the reason for this oversight is the fact that many players (and especially parents of softball players!) consider softball sunglasses to be more of a fashion accessory than some bona fide piece of equipment. Nothing could be further from the truth because sunglasses not only help shield the eyes from the sun, but they also provide much needed softball eye protection for the players.
Outfield Sunglasses - What To Look For
Any player that has tried to field a fly ball while playing softball knows that the sun causes more missed catches than anything else. Outfielders really need flip-up sunglasses so they can focus on the infield play with the lenses flipped up and then flip them down when trying to field a pop-up to prevent the sun from blinding their vision. Just be sure that the sunglasses have adequate tint so that they are actually useful when needed!
When playing softball, eye protection is the other main reason for sunglasses. Be sure to find a pair of sunglasses with shatter-proof lenses so that your eyes remain protected in the event of an accident. While it is standard on most sunglasses, make sure that the shades also have UV protection as well to prevent long-term damage to the cornea. Online retailers have the best selection of softball eye protection and generally have the best prices too thanks to their low overhead and they should be able to help you find the best pair of sunglasses that will shield your eyes from both the sun and runaway softballs!
